Boating Season Details

  • The boating season runs from mid-April to late October/early November. 
  • Patrol shifts occur on weeknights and weekends.
  • Boat preparation sessions for in service takes place during April.
  • Boat haul-out takes place in early November.
  • Call outs for emergencies are 24/7 during boating season. 


Requirements and Training

To ensure the highest standards and safety, we ask that our volunteers meet the following criteria

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
  • Applicants must have a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) at the time of application.
  • A Restricted Operator's Certificate - Maritime (ROC-M) is required for all crew members and can be obtained after joining. 
  • While T-SAR provides some gear, volunteers are responsible for purchasing additional items.
  • Participation in mandatory winter training sessions starts in January/February.
  • Commitment to continuous skill enhancement through courses.
  • Attendance at two full weekends of Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary(CCGA) Phase training.
